Dr. Sandeep Sovani is Director of Global Automotive Industry at ANSYS Inc., the world’s largest, independent Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software company (NASDAQ: ANSS). He serves as a leader for the automotive industry sector at ANSYS and is responsible for developing the company’s business and market strategy for the worldwide automotive market segment. He holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University, USA. Dr. Sovani has been actively involved in various areas of automotive technology and business for two decades. He previously worked with Tata Motors, India. Under a grant from the Cummins Engine Company, he conducted research on IC Engines at Purdue University and recently served as an Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Lawrence Technological University, Michigan, USA. Dr. Sovani is the author of more than 40 papers, articles, reports and has delivered numerous invited lectures at academic and industry conferences.

Dr. Anthony Wong is currently V.P. of Business Development & V.P. of EV Engineering at ATL, head-quartered in Hong Kong. ATL, a leading lithium-ion pouch/polymer battery manufacturer, is a subsidiary of TDK. Dr. Wong has helped serving international name-brand OEMs, and growing ATL from a start-up to a-billion dollar battery enterprise. He has been in the battery industry for more than 25 years and has served with the UL Standard Committee, the CTIA CATL Committee, the IEEE Battery Standards, and “Sensor” magazine Advisory Board member. Dr. Wong travels extensively in Asia, USA and Europe developing key customers, building global alliances, positioning and formulating strategy for the company. Prior joining ATL/TDK, Dr. Wong was at Energizer and Gould Electronics with senior management capacities including competitive intelligence, sales and marketing, research and development, and launching new business divisions. He received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Mr. Vassen studied electomical engineering at the RWTH Aachen, Germany. In 1997 he became system engineer of engine control at Mannesmann VDO AG. He entered Audi AG in 1999 as diagnostics engineer and became manager of gateway ECU and data buses in 2004. He has been manager of energy and storage systems at Audi since 2006.

Ms. Amemiya is currently senior Manager of Automotive Energy Supply Corporation. She joined NEC Corporation in 1989 and started developing lithium-ion batteries at NEC central research laboratory in 1997. She then joined NEC Lamilion Energy, Ltd. in 2002 and worked on the development of lithium-ion batteries for automotive applications. In 2008 Ms. Amemiya joined Automotive Energy Supply Corporation. Shigeaki Kato is President of Automotive Energy Supply Corporation ( AESC ) from the beginning of April, 2014. Prior to joining AESC, he was the Senior Vice President in Total Customer Satisfaction Function Division at Nissan from 2012. He served as Senior Vice President of Production Engineering Division at Nissan since 2009. He spent 35 years at Nissan, mostly automotive manufacturing and manufacturing engineering.

Dr. Wiedemann studied Mechatronics at the University of Aalen, Germany and the University of Teesside, GB. During his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Ulm, he investigated ageing mechanisms for NiMH cells for HEVs. Since 2003, he has been involved in battery management systems and works with electrochemical storage systems. After working in research and development departments at Daimler AG and Robert Bosch GmbH, he joined AVL List GmbH as Product Manager for Battery Systems in 2009.

Mr. Mukainakano graduated in 1984 from a bachelor’s course in biochemistry from the Department of Applied Sciences at the Muroran Institute of Technology, and joined Seiko Denshi Kogyo that same year. He started working at the Institute of Information Technology in 2009, investigating markets and the technologies for LIB BMS and protection circuit components, modules and packs, investigating ESS markets, and providing related business consulting and executive support. In May 2012, Mr. Mukainakano took the post of vice president of B3 Corporation to carry on the same work.

Mr. Takeshita graduated from a bachelor’s course at the Department of Reaction Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, in 1991. He has been involved continuously with investigation and consulting on the LIB market, as an investigative researcher for the Nomura Research Institute from 1991, and as vice-president of the Institute of Information Technology from 2000. Mr. Takeshita Founded B3 Corporation in April 2012, taking the post of President and CEO. Investigated LIB markets and the technologies of LIB cells and materials, as well as the mobile and IT market and the xEV market, and provided related business consulting and executive support.

Jian-Guo Ren obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2005 from Tsinghua University, PR China. He was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology at Tsinghua University from 2005 to 2009, and then spent one and half years at the Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) division, Argonne National Laboratory, USA, as a Visiting Scientist. From 2011 to 2012, he worked as a Research Fellow in the Center of Super Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF), City University of Hong Kong. He is currently Deputy Director of the Institute of New Energy Technology, Shenzhen BTR New Energy Materials Inc., PR China. His research focuses on nanomaterials (nano silicon and nano carbon), surface and interface chemistry, lithium ion battery, electric vehicle and energy storage system. He has published over 60 referred articles and holds over 20 patents.

Xiaoyu ZHANG earned his double Bachelor’s degree in Material Chemistry, International Economics and Commerce from Nankai University, Tianjin PRC, in 2005. He obtained his double PhD from Pierre and Marie Curie University and Peking University on lithium-ion battery materials in 2010. He joined the European research center of Saint-Gobain as R&D engineer from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Zhang is currently a research analyst in China Industrial Association of Power Sources (CIAPS), focusing on the global intelligence on lithium-ion batteries value chain.

Dr. Brandt earned his Ph.D. in Physics at the Technical University of Munich. He has spent over 35 years in the battery industry starting out with rechargeable Li-metal anode systems and then Li-Ion batteries when working for Moli Energy in Canada. He continued in the industry with managing the development of large format Li-Ion batteries for VARTA in Germany, Duracell in the US and then for GAIA again in Germany. Three years ago he joined Clariant and has been involved in the commercialization of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cathode materials.

Dr. Ozawa is known in the industry since his role as the project leader for Sony Li Ion cell team that pioneered the commercialization of Li Ion batteries in the early nineties. Dr. Ozawa worked at Sony from 1967 to 1996, covering the development of ceramic materials, magnetic films, and batteries.
In 1996 Dr. Ozawa founded ENAX, Inc. a developer of Li Ion cells and production technology, and served as its president and CEO until 2013.

From the setting up, Mr. Okushita’s overriding goal was to develop laminated film for automotive LIB market. He has been focusing on taking measure of essential properties, design specification of packing, development of inspection apparatus and sales operating activity. Up to the present date, he has delivered lectures for The Chemical Society of Japan and The Electrochemical Society of Japan and has dispersed the laminated film technology. Recently he has consulted several users and tried hard to explain the preserving property, the safety and to dispel the stereotype of the laminated film. Furthermore, besides packing technology, he is also committed to find inspection methods for users. His applications for patents are more than 200 and registrations are more than 100.

Tadatoshi Asada is the head of the Engine Electrical Systems Engineering Division at DENSO Corporation in Japan. He joined DENSO in 1988 after graduating from Yokohama National University and in his early years at DENSO was engaged in the development of generator control systems. These days Tadatoshi leads the development and promotion of advanced Start & Stop technology. Last year Tadatoshi's development team successfully launched the world's first mass produced advanced S&S system using a 12V Li-ion battery. This battery permits the elimination of the DC-DC convertor, limiting the system cost whilst improving the fuel economy.

Ted Miller is Ford's Senior Manager of Energy Storage and Materials Strategy and Research. His team is responsible for energy storage strategy, research, development and implementation for all Ford hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell vehicles. Mr. Miller's team supports global prototype and production vehicle development programs. They are involved in every aspect of energy storage design and use from raw materials to end-of-life recycling. His team also sponsors collaborative research programs at the University of Michigan, where they will soon be opening a new joint battery fabrication and evaluation lab, Stanford, MIT, Ohio State University, and a number of other major universities worldwide. Mr. Miller is Chairman of the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) Management Committee. Armin Warm received his diploma in power and electrical engineering from the University of Essen, Germany. Osamu Yamamoto is a professor emeritus Mie University and a visiting professor of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chines Academy of Science China. He received his PhD in engineering from Nagoya University. During his tenure at Nagoya University, he discovered a super high copper ion conductivity solid electrolyte of Rb 4Cu 16I 7Cl 13, the conductivity of which is 0.32 S cm -1 at 25 oC. He was Asia Regional Editor of Solid State Ionics for 13 years and president of the International Society of Solid State Ionics in 1994-1995. Among his numerical Awards is the Award of the Electrochemical Society, Japan and was elected a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society in 2003.

Mr. Miyamoto joined Nissan Motor Co. in 1981 and started researching advanced batteries for EV at Nissan Research Center. In 1994, he joined Li-Ion battery development projects for EV/HEV. In 2006, Mr. Miyamoto became General Manager of the EV Energy Development Department at Nissan, and in 2007, Engineering Director in the EV Energy Development Department. Mr. Miyamoto headed the Nissan Leaf battery system development project.

Beatrice Lacout received a Master's Degree in Engineering. She spent most of her carrier with Saft, first in the Space Division as Project Manager for batteries for geostationary satellites. She is today Business Development and Sale Manager for Europe & Asia in the Vehicle Division.

Kisuk Kang is a professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University where he received his BS. He did his PhD and postdoc at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before he joined SNU, he was a professor at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) until 2010. From 2013, he is a tenured professor at SNU. His research lab at SNU focuses on developing new materials for LIB, post-Li battery chemistries—such as Na, Mg batteries and metal-air batteries—using combined experiments and abinitio calculations. For the past 5 years, he has published more than 100 international journals and issued more than 10 patents on this field. His accomplishments were recognized by ISE (International Society of Electrochemistry) Young Investigator Award (2011), Inaugural Energy and Environmental Science Lectureship Award (Royal Society of Chemistry, 2012), PBFC Award (Korean Electrochemical Society, 2013) etc. Also, he was recently selected as a winner of the prestigious Korean Young Scientist Award by the President of Korea (2013).

Mr. Nakanishi joined Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1990 and was involved in developing silicone surfactants. He then joined the manufacturing department in 1993 and investigated the catalyst and process in chlorosilane synthesis. In 2004 he joined the battery materials group and was involved in development of electrolyte solution. Mr. Nakanishi is currently involved in the development of anode materials, especially silicon, as a chief researcher of this group.

Kenji Inakoshi joined Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. in 1997. In 2002, he started to research advanced battery systems for EV/HEV at Subaru Technical Research Center. Since 2008, he has engaged in the development of the battery system for Mild-HEV. And the system was applied to SUBARU XV CROSSTREK HYBRID, which was launched last year as Subaru's first HEV.

Dr. Yang has over 14 years of experience in Li-Ion battery development for EV applications. While at ITRI, he lead a team of 30 people dedicated to developing Li-ion batteries for LEV and HEV applications as well as the LEV promotion project in Taiwan, two projects that were supported by the Taiwanese government. He is now General Manager at TD HiTech Energy, Inc., a company that develops energy-storage systems and provides Li-Ion battery pack systems for E-Bike and E-scooter application markets, and President of EnergyBus e.V.

Michael Lord is a Senior Principal Engineer in Vehicle Regulation & Certification Engineering for Toyota Technical Center (TTC), the North American research arm of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA). Mr. Lord has a B.A. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania and studied Japanese language at Sophia University in Japan before joining Toyota Motor Corporation in 1987. In 1993, he transferred to TTC where he works closely with Toyota engineering and US regulators on issues related to future powertrains including the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD), Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV), Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) regulations.

Dr. Monique Richard is a Senior Principal Engineer at Toyota Technical Center (TTC), a division of Toyota Engineering & Manufacturing North America in the Materials Engineering division. Dr. Richard is currently responsible for materials research and development, product benchmarking and strategic market investigation. Dr. Richard represents Toyota as the technical lead for Li-battery standards development at SAE. This includes chairing SAE materials testing committee and is a member of the SAE Vehicle Battery steering committee. Dr. Richard joined TTC in 2004 as a principal scientist for battery material research, specifically the identification of unique technologies that would bypass current battery performance. Dr. Richard received her Doctorate from Dalhousie University (Halifax Canada)

Dong Joon Ihm is leading research & development of cathode materials and their qualification programs at applications for Rechargeable Battery Materials Business Unit within Umicore. He has been the managing director of Umicore Korea Limited for seven years before taking up current responsibility and has been working in battery industries since 1996. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Akron in 1994 in Polymer Engineering and his MS in Chemical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1985.

Representing the Volkswagen Group for Electric Development topics, Thomas Weber is stationed in Volkswagen Group’s Technical Representative, Tokyo. Prior this assignment he was responsible for safety related high voltage topics within technical development at Volkswagen Headquarter in Wolfsburg, Germany. He holds a Degree in Engineering & Business and started his carrier within the international Trainee Program at Volkswagen AG.

Xinbao Gao is the CTO of Wanxiang A123 Systems Asia Co. Ltd, where he leads the battery technology group for xEV battery system development. Gao started his Li-ion battery career at EnerDel Inc since 2006. In 2012, he was appointed as the CTO of the Zhejinga Wanxiang Ener1 Power solution Co. Ltd (The joint venture between Ener1 and Wanxiang Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd) and in 2013, he took the position of CTO in Wanxiang A123 Systems Asia. Gao has particular expertise and general experience in large format battery cells and systems used for new energy vehicles. His experiences include cell and cell component design and evaluation, manufacturing process improvement, and battery system design and integration. Gao received his Phd in Mechanical Engineering from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his Master and Bachelor degree in Engineering from Sichuang University, China.

Sachiya Inagaki, born in Tokyo, Japan, has been working with Yano Research Institute since August 2000, when he joined the CMEO (Chemical Materials and Electronics & Optics) department as market researcher. Recently, Mr. Inagaki has been focusing primarily on doing market research on Li-ion battery cells and four major materials (cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and separators). His geographic scope of research is not limited to Japan, Korea, and China, but also includes the U.S. and Europe where new Li-ion battery markets have been emerging. He has travelled to many different countries to conduct interview with key persons in the Li-ion battery industry. Since August 2011, he has been in the position of general manager of Seoul Branch Office.
